Many men, especially Americans, view scarves in a utilitarian way. To them the scarf is simply a means to retain body heat. How it is tied and worn isn’t nearly as important as how warm it is. For everyone else, especially women, how a man looks in a scarf is very important. A scarf worn well can make an average looking man appear sophisticated and worldly. A poorly worn scarf will make a worldly and sophisticated man look like a schoolboy.
